Dermaplaning Facial

dermaplaning facial

Just like an onion our skin has many layers, 3 to be exact. The most outer layer is the epidermis; this layer provides a waterproof barrier and our skin tone. The epidermis is also is made up of 10 - 30 thin layers of continually shedding, dead keratinocytes (skin cells). Dermaplaning is a cosmetic treatment that removes the top layers of your skin. The treatment aims to remove fine wrinkles and deep acne scarring, as well as make the skin's surface look smooth. Dermaplaning is safe for most people, with little risk of side effects when it's performed by a certified Esthetician. Removing the dead- dull skin cells, we reveal fresh skin!

There are multiple benefits by this form of physical exfoliation, which are as followed:

  • Provides deeper product penetration- products can absorbed into the skin better, without being block by dead useless skin, giving your products a better chance to work!

  • Removes soft facial hair that traps dirt and oils

  • Promotes smoother skin

  • Safe procedure for removing dead skin cells and “peachfuzz”

  • Reduces the appearance of acne scars- a lot of our damage occurs in the epidermis, so by breaking down the built up of dead skin it will eliminate the appearance of scaring

  • Diminishes the look of fine lines

  • Works on all skin types

  • Instant results and no downtime

How often can this magic happen? People will usually go every 3 to 4 weeks. People who suffer from acne or have excess oil should not have dermaplaning performed because if the hair is removed from the area, the oils may cause bacteria growth which could lead to acne breakouts.

Dermaplaning is an effective and safe exfoliation and a relaxing treatment. It uses a sterile surgical scalpel to shave the surface of the skin to remove excess dead skin and peach fuzz hairs. The tool is held at a 45 degree angle and is brushed along the skin to remove the hair and skin cells. The procedure is only performed on the face and is not used for shaping the eyebrows, which the hair is much thicker. It is generally a stand-alone procedure, but I like to incorporate a Vitamin C serum and LED Light Therapy to boost collagen production, since the skin is now prepped for a deeper product penetration boosting the products effects. This treatment makes skin look and feel smoother and will reduces the appearance of a youthful healthy glow!

Oil Dermaplaning

Just like dermplaning, oil is first put onto the skin to lubricate, which aids individuals with more mature skin types that are dehydrated, sensitive, reactive, have thin skin or more advanced prominent wrinkles and laxity. Also, there is that old wives tale if you shave your face the hairs grow back darker. This is not true! Since dermaplaning only targets the fine vellus hair (peachfuzz) the hair will grow back the same size and color. It is physiologically impossible for the hair to grow back thicker and dark, so no need to panic and worry.

*Never do dermaplaning at home. Leave it to the professional, to ensure a safe and effective treatment. If you are interested in scheduling an appointment or just learning more about dermaplaning or any of our other treatments please call or schedule online today!
